Answer all questions truthfully.
Ask questions whenever you do not understand something.
Be cautious with your trust.
If items are needed as evidence or exhibits, ask for a written receipt for them.
Ask for the name, badge number and contact phone number for the investigating officer as well as the incident number.
Read carefully any written statement given to the police before signing it.
Never sign the statement you’ve made until you have clarified it in your own mind.
It’s okay to ask for time to rewrite the statement if you are uncomfortable with the wording.
Never agree to something simply because you feel intimidated by “legalese.”
