What is Corrections?

Corrections is a short form for the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) which is also part of the criminal justice system. This is the third system you will have to deal with. It too has its own rules and regulations.

CSC determines in which federal institution (penitentiary) the offender will serve his or her time, depending on the security level (minimum, medium or maximum security). CSC administers the offender’s sentence, treatment programs, moves to other institutions and supervises the offender when he or she is released into the community.

Both the Correctional Service of Canada and the National Parole Board are governed by the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (CCRA).
