What compensation might be available?

Compensation will vary from province to province and in the territories depending on the existing legislation for victims of crime. Some provinces provide bereavement counselling for direct family members (brothers, sisters, parents or children) of the deceased victim. Some provinces may pay funeral expenses and benefits for dependents of the victim and for dependent spouses if there are no other benefits payable such as private insurance and Canada Pension.
